Vendor allows it. We are building it.

Can an AI receptionist book into Open Dental?

Open Dental allows it. Open Dental publishes a REST API that reads and writes patients, providers and appointments. We build the connection with the first customer who runs Open Dental, because it has to be tested against a real account.

Open Dental publishes a REST API that reads and writes patients, providers and appointments. It requires a developer key issued to BookLine by Open Dental's vendor relations team plus a customer key generated in each practice.

What BookLine does on a call todayIn development

Today the AI answers, handles scheduling questions from your onboarding, takes the appointment request with the caller's details, and sends it to your front desk to enter in Open Dental.

If you run Open Dental, tell us before you sign. We will scope the connection against your account and tell you plainly what the vendor requires.

How a call goes

Today: answered, quoted, and the booking link in their hand.

Until the integration ships, the AI answers every call, answers questions from your onboarding, texts the caller your booking link while they are on the phone, and sends your team anything that needs a person.

Every assistant opens with your business name, the recording notice, and an introduction as an AI assistant. Anyone who asks for a person gets one.

Sent. You'll see it in a second, and if anything gives you trouble just call back and I'll take it from here.

What you need on your side

Before we connect Open Dental.

The vendor sets most of these conditions, not us. Knowing them up front is the difference between a two-day setup and a surprise.

  • An Open Dental practice that generates a customer key for BookLine, and a signed BAA with us.
  • Services or job types set up with durations
  • A number or inbox for requests to land on in the meantime
  • A signed Business Associate Agreement with BookLine, since appointments contain patient information
Where this sits

Where the AI books for real, and where it can't yet.

Some booking systems let outside software write appointments. Some do not, and no vendor can change that. We keep the vendor's side and our side separate, and we update the list as we prove each system.

Questions owners ask

Questions owners ask about Open Dental.

Can the AI book into Open Dental today?

Not yet as a direct write. The vendor allows it, but the connection has to be built and tested against a real account, so we do it with the first customer on that system. Today the AI answers, quotes from your onboarding, texts the caller your Open Dental booking link during the call, and sends your team anything that needs a person.

What will change when the integration ships?

The AI will read live availability from Open Dental, offer real times, and create the appointment on the call. Nothing changes on your phones or your number; we switch the tool on for your account.

What do I need to have ready?

An Open Dental practice that generates a customer key for BookLine, and a signed BAA with us. We complete Open Dental's developer registration against the first practice that needs it.

Does the AI tell callers it's an AI?

Yes. Right after your business name it says the call may be recorded for quality assurance, then introduces itself as an AI assistant. Callers can ask for a person at any time.

Do I need to change my phone number?

No. We forward your existing number, or port it onto our phone system if you want us to run the whole thing. Your customers never notice.

Not sure what you are running?

Tell us what you book on and we will tell you plainly what we can and cannot do with it, before you pay for anything.
